BLACKPINK's Rosé has released a new single titled "Messy," which is part of the soundtrack for the upcoming F1 movie starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. The song was released on May 9, 2025, and the movie is set to premiere on June 27.
"Messy" is a dynamic pop ballad produced by Lostboy and Burns. In the song, Rosé sings about the complexities and chaos of love, with lyrics like "So, baby, let's get messy, let's get all the way undone". The music video for "Messy" features Rosé and includes exclusive, never-before-seen footage of Brad Pitt and Kerry Condon from the F1 movie. The filming of the music video even shut down the Las Vegas Strip.
Rosé expressed her excitement about working on the movie soundtrack, stating, "So, this is my first time working on a movie soundtrack, and I am so extremely honored and excited beyond imagination to be a part of this incredible movie".
The F1 movie, directed by Joseph Kosinski, features Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, and cameos from current F1 drivers. The F1 soundtrack, "F1 The Album," will feature other artists like Ed Sheeran and Tate McRae. The soundtrack is available for pre-order and will be released alongside the film on June 27.
This is Rosé's first musical release since her solo debut album R in December. Some find "Messy" to be a "sleek, grandiose ballad without much personality" and not as good as Rosé's duet with Bruno Mars, "APT".
The lyrics of "Messy" explore themes of tangled relationships, obsession, and the acceptance of imperfections in love:
Rosé was also seen providing the checkered flag at the F1 Miami Grand Prix on May 4, further connecting her to the world of Formula 1 racing and the upcoming film.
