In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, expressing his condolences and unwavering support for India in its fight against terrorism. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the Emir conveyed his complete support for India's actions to bring the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack to justice.
The attack, which resulted in the loss of 26 lives, has heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The United Nations Security Council convened closed-door consultations, with envoys calling for restraint and dialogue amidst the rising tensions.
India has increased its surveillance of Pakistan's western maritime front, closely monitoring fuel shipments and the activities of Pakistani warships in the Arabian Sea. Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda has voiced his support for the Indian government's response to the attack.
Meanwhile, a parliamentary panel has requested details from key ministries regarding actions planned against social media platforms and influencers allegedly working against national interests following the Pahalgam attack. BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge's remarks about PM Modi's canceled Kashmir visit.
Qatar, along with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, had previously expressed deep concern over the escalation between India and Pakistan, urging restraint and diplomatic resolution. Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its support for de-escalating tensions and addressing outstanding issues through peaceful means.
The U.S. has also been involved, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio speaking to senior officials in both India and Pakistan to encourage de-escalation. Rubio conveyed the U.S.'s commitment to cooperation with India against terrorism and emphasized the need for both sides to work together for peace and stability in South Asia.
