US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has wrapped up her Asia tour, following stops in Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan. The most controversial was her stopover in Taiwan, pushing cross-strait tensions to new heights and further straining US-China relations. Japan is a staunch US ally but it has kept quiet about Ms Pelosi’s controversial trip. Ben Bland, Director of the Asia-Pacific programme at Chatham House, shared his views on the tensions over Taiwan and US-China ties.
