Chinese Premier Li Keqiang called for authorities nationwide to step up flood control measures and disaster relief efforts on June 22, 2022, as southern China continued to battle severe flooding. Yingde county in Guangdong province saw record flooding, while more than 400,000 people have been affected by rising waters in the city of Yongzhou in Hunan province. More extreme weather is expected as China’s annual monsoon season gets under way from July-August.
